AI OCR + Structure Reconstruction

Convert Scanned PDFs Into Real EPUB Ebooks

A scanned PDF is just photos of pages — ordinary converters return blank pages or frozen images. Our AI reads the scan, rebuilds the structure, and delivers a searchable, reflowable EPUB.

Why Ordinary Converters Fail on Scans

A scanned PDF has no text layer — there is nothing inside for a normal converter to read. So it fails in one of three ways:

Blank pages

The converter looks for text, finds none, and outputs an empty EPUB shell.

Pages as pictures

Page images get stuffed into the EPUB. No search, no font-size change, giant file — a photo album with an .epub extension.

Garbled text

A crude built-in OCR pass produces rn→m errors, fused words, scrambled columns, and footnotes glued into the body.

What You Get, Before and After

Your scanned PDF today

  • Text can't be selected, copied, or searched
  • Tiny fixed pages — painful on e-readers and phones
  • No table of contents, no chapter navigation
  • Huge file size from full-page images
  • Footnotes, tables, and formulas locked in pictures

Your EPUB from PDF2EPUB

  • Real, searchable, selectable text on every page
  • Reflows to any screen and font size — great on e-ink
  • Working, clickable table of contents built from real chapters
  • Compact file — text instead of photos of text
  • Footnotes separated, tables and formulas reconstructed

What the AI Actually Preserves

Recognition is the easy half. The hard half is rebuilding the book's structure — and that's what sets an AI pipeline apart from classic OCR.

Accurate AI OCR

Modern vision models read scans, old print, and mixed-language pages with far fewer of the classic rn→m, lost-space errors of traditional OCR engines.

Chapters & Reading Order

Headings become a real table of contents. Multi-column pages, sidebars, and pull quotes are read in human order — not top-to-bottom word salad.

Tables & Formulas

Tables stay tables, with rows and columns intact. Mathematical formulas are reconstructed instead of dissolving into number soup.

Footnotes & Clean Text

Footnotes leave the body text. Page numbers and running headers disappear entirely, instead of interrupting every page mid-sentence.

How It Works

1

Upload your scanned PDF

Books, papers, old documents — any image-based PDF. 300 DPI scans give the best results.

2

AI reads and rebuilds

OCR recognizes the text; a vision-language model reconstructs chapters, footnotes, tables, and reading order.

3

Download a real EPUB

Searchable, reflowable, with a working table of contents. Ready for Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, and any e-reader.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my PDF is scanned?

Try to select a sentence with your cursor. If nothing highlights — or the whole page selects as one image block — it's a scanned (image-based) PDF and needs OCR. If text selects normally, it's a text-based PDF and any converter can read it.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. You can convert a free sample of your own document and check the result — search the text, change the font size, open the table of contents — before paying anything.

How is this different from Calibre or ABBYY FineReader?

Calibre has no OCR at all — it can only embed scan images. ABBYY has excellent character recognition but struggles to rebuild book structure, so footnotes, tables, and chapters need manual cleanup. PDF2EPUB does recognition and structure reconstruction in one pass.

Does it work for old books, academic papers, and complex layouts?

Yes — those are exactly the cases it was built for. Multi-column papers, footnote-heavy scholarship, tables, and formulas are handled by the structure-reconstruction step that classic OCR pipelines lack.

What languages are supported?

Major languages including English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese, plus mixed-language pages — which break traditional OCR far more often than AI recognition.

What happens to my files after conversion?

Your files are processed for the conversion and are deleted automatically according to our retention policy. See our privacy policy for details — we don't use your documents to train models or share them with third parties.
